 | North Shore Lakefront Condos/Co-Ops |
 |
|
Once known as No Man's Land, to longtime North Shore denizens, this area has undergone much change over the last century. Comprised of a small triangle of land between the "old part" of Wilmette and Kenilworth, it was finally annexed after much controversy in 1942. No Man's Land had a bad reputation, as there was limited zoning which encouraged "establishments" that were open on Sundays which were often hosts to some "unsavory characters." Plaza del Lago now stands on the site of Teatro del Lago, a popular theater in No Man's Land in the 1930s. The theater was torn down in 1966 to make way for other shops in this Spanish-influenced shopping plaza. |

In conjunction with the expansion of shopping, luxury condominium and co-operatvive buildings were built across Sheridan Road on the shores of Lake Michigan in the late 1960s. To this day, these are some of the most sought after buildings in which to live on the North Shore.
There are seven buildings, six of which are right on the lake. The southernmost and northernmost buildings along the lake are co-ops, while the remaining five are condominiums. |

This is the northernmost of all the buildings, located on the border of Wilmette and Kenilworth. This building is a co-op instead of a condo. This co-op was built at the same time as and by the same architect as 1500 Sheridan Road. It also is designed so that the formal rooms face the lake and the bedrooms face tree-lined Sheridan Road. The odd floors are one level and the even floors are bi-level or tri-level. It has many amenities including 24-hour doorman, indoor parking, party room, outdoor pool, and more. |

All of these buildings are conveniently located across from Plaza del Lago. Plaza del Lago offers ease of shopping with a grocery store, pharmacy, movie rental, gift store, restaurants, coffee shops, and more. The drive into Chicago is approximately 30 minutes. There is also easy access by Pace bus to the "L" (Chicago's elevated train system) that goes through Evanston to downtown Chicago. The Purple Line runs here which provides easy access to Howard Street and the Red Line that goes to Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, and to the 2005 World Champion Chicago White Sox.
