Northfield Real Estate

Northfield is located just west of Winnetka, approximately 15 miles north of Chicago. Northfield has easy access to the Edens Expressway (Interstate 94).  Northfield is a small village with an area of 3.0 square miles and a population of 5,389.  Northfield was settled beginning in the 1850s and was later incorporated in 1926.

Northfield has a wide variety of houses from smaller starter houses on pretty tree-lined streets to larger houses on large, multi-acre lots.  As a result, parts of Northfield offer a "country" feel.

Schools

Northfield schools (District 29) continue in the tradition of excellence of North Shore schools.  There are two schools, Middlefork School, which houses grades K-3, and Sunset Ridge, which has grades 4-8. 

A small area of Northfield attends Avoca School (District 37). The lower grades attend Avoca School, grades K-5. Marie Murphy School is comprised of students in grades 6-8.  District 37 is shared by parts of Wilmette, Winnetka, Northfield, and Glenview.

For high school, all students in New Trier Township are able to attend New Trier High School (District 203).  New Trier High School is divided into two campuses.  The West Campus, located in Northfield, is home to all freshman students.  This is a wonderful arrangement, as it is the first time students from all six junior high schools come together.  The freshman campus provides a great opportunity for a large class of 1000 students to get to know each other without the influence of the older grades.  The East Campus is the original campus established in 1901.  The East Campus, located in Winnetka, accommodates sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  New Trier is known for its academic excellence in addition to its award winning fine arts program and excellent athletic programs.

Northfield is home to the North Shore Senior Center.  The senior center, established in 1956, was among the first accredited senior centers in the nation and was the first to be reaccredited by the National Institute of Senior Centers.  It provides activities and clubs to residents from the surrounding communities. Clubs include activities such as fishing, computer, laff-in, story telling, and much more.  The facility is located at 161 Northfield Road.

Village Life

Northfield's shopping area is conveniently located and has just about everything one could need.  There are the typical conveniences such as grocery, pharmacy, and hardware stores. Additionally there are delicious restaurants, and bakeries, specialty shops and boutiques, and a little something for everyone.

The library is located in the heart of downtown and is conveniently located for most residents.

The Police and Fire Safety buildings are also nearby and in the heart of the village.
