Wilmette Real Estate
Wilmette is located just north of Evanston, Illinois and is the second suburb north of Chicago. Wilmette, founded in 1872, has a population of 27,651 and is comprised of 10,039 households. Wilmette is approximately 13 miles north of Chicago. The train ride to downtown Chicago takes only 28-35 minutes.
Wilmette is the largest of the five "feeder suburbs" to New Trier with an area of 5.4 square miles. The Eastern part of Wilmette typically has "older" vintage houses, many of which are walking distance to either the beach, town, train, or schools.
West Wilmette has many parks that are also walking distance to schools and has easy access to the expressway to downtown Chicago and O'Hare Airport. |

Schools
There are four neighborhood grade schools in Wilmette's District 39. They are Central, McKenzie, Harper, and Romona School. These four grade schools all contain students in grades K-4. Students from all four schools then attend Highcrest Middle School for fifth and sixth grades and Wilmette Junior High for grades seven and eight. District 39 focuses on educating the whole child, offering a variety of academic, social, and emotional programs in and out of the classroom to help students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful. |
A portion of Wilmette attends Avoca School, (District 37). The lower grades attend Avoca School, grades K-5. Marie Murphy School is comprised of students in grades 6-8. District 37 is shared by parts of Wilmette, Winnetka, Northfield, and Glenview. Students from Marie Murphy (District 37) and Wilmette Junior High (District 39) all attend New Trier High School. |

For high school, all students in New Trier Township are able to attend New Trier High School (District 203). New Trier is divided into two campuses. The West Campus, located in Northfield, is home to all freshman students. This is a wonderful arrangement, as it is the first time students from all six junior high schools come together. The freshman campus provides a great opportunity for a large class of 1000 students to get to know each other without the influence of the older grades. The East Campus is the original campus established in 1901. The East Campus, located in Winnetka, accommodates sophomores, juniors, and seniors. New Trier is known for its academic excellence in addition to its award winning fine arts program and excellent athletic programs.
Parks and Recreation
Wilmette's Park District has 19 parks throughout the Wilmette area. Gillson Park is one of the highlights with nearly 60 acres on Lake Michigan. Located just north of Wilmette Harbor, Gillson Park is a gathering place for many swimmers, joggers, bikers, and others who want to be along the lake. The sailing beach is a separate area where boats are stored and lessons are available. Dogs are allowed at the dog beach. |

Centennial Recreation Complex is a highlight with many athletic opportunities including: the Centennial Family Aquatic Center, eight indoor Wilmette Tennis Club Courts and two indoor ice rinks. The tennis courts and the ice rinks are open year round. There are tennis and skating pro shops located at the complex, along with indoor and outdoor concession stands. Ice rink rentals are available at Centennial for hockey, broomball, and other skating party events. |

The Wilmette Community Center has nearly 94,000 square feet of space and is home to many activities including: preschool programs, Kindergarten Enrichment, after school programs, art, ceramics, performing arts, dance, music, and gymnastics. The Wilmette Community Center hosts the Wilmette Fitness Center.
The Wilmette Community Center also is home for The David Meskill Senior Center, a social club exclusively for senior citizens. In addition to special events, speakers, trips and stimulating classes, many more activities are offered. There is an Investment Club, Bowling Club, Walking Club, and so much more. Membership entitles you to participation in members-only classes and activities, and priority registration on trips. If you are 55 or older, you may register for membership in the Senior Center at any time.
The Wilmette Library is located just west of downtown Wilmette. It opened its doors in 1880 and has grown into the 66,600 square foot facility it occupies today.

Village Life
Wilmette has several shopping areas. The primary downtown area is located just east of Green Bay Road at Central Street. There are great shops, and both gourmet and family dining are at your fingertips.
The Linden Street area also has area shops and conveniences, including the last stop of the Purple Line for the Chicago CTA's elevated train, or "L". This provides easy access to downtown Chicago, including the friendly confines of fabled Wrigley Field.
Plaza del Lago offers shopping convenience across the street from the shores of Lake Michigan and luxury condominiums. Full service shopping from the grocery store, pharmacy, gift store, movie rental, and restaurants, to furniture, clothing boutiques, camera shops, and more are available here.
